Compression Load Test

 

General

 

Midroc Foundation Specialist has been performing Pile load testing on the different projects that it has executed to date and is still the leading service provider in the country incorporating the latest technological advancements in the construction industry.

Pile load testing is usually carried out on one out of various reasons such as:

 

a) Preliminary pile tests to design the required pile length and pile loads (performed on test piles)

 

b) Working pile tests to prove the pile length and to review the actual soil conditions (performed on working piles)

Remark: This Method Statement describes the principles of the work. Details of work sequence, equipment, materials, etc. may be modified according to actual requirements or circumstances on site.



 

Loading and Reaction Equipment:

 

The test will be imposed to the top of the of the test pile by means of hydraulic jack (s) reacting against a steel beam anchored in reaction piles. The steel beam is designed to carry up to 600 tons test load. The loading on a working pile will be conducted as per the schedule below: Table 1: Sample Loading Procedure for Working Pile Loading Test

Pile Load Testing Set Up with Two Test Beams and Four Reaction Piles (Derba Midroc Cement Factory Site)

 

Measurement of load:

 

The applied load will be calculated by recording the applied hydraulic pressure. The hydraulic pressure multiplied by the piston area of the jack is resulting in the imposed load. The load cell with a digital display will show separately the actual load, which is applied.

    Compression Load Test

     

    Tension loading was not required in any projects in Ethiopia yet, but we have used the set up for different purposes. The general procedure will be a lot like that of the compression load testing.
